My great-great Gido, Tymko Byblow, was a tailor of sheepskin coats when he emigrated from Dolina, Ukraine to Saskatchewan to farm and make a life for his family. His daughter in law, my great-grandmother Kassia (Fedun) Byblow sewed without patterns and was creative with the little materials she had. My mother, third generation, sewed her own dresses as a young adult, always costumes and mending for her kids and continues her talent for Poltava as one of two seamstresses. Many of the dancers call her a second mom, and I'm proud to call her my first.
